DES MOINES - The Iowa Cubs (24-32) dropped the opener of a five-game series to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (29-25) on Monday night, 4-3. The I-Cubs have played in 23 one-run games this season, owning a 12-11 record and playing the most one-run games in the Pacific Coast League.

In the top of the second inning with Oklahoma City's Charlie Culberson batting, the I-Cubs turned a 6-4 triple play, with shortstop Elliot Soto catching Culberson's line drive and proceeding to toss the ball to Chesny Young. Young doubled off Scott Van Slyke at second base and tagged out Max Muncy sliding into second base. It was Iowa's first triple play turned since August 9, 2008 at Round Rock.
Oklahoma City struck first with three runs on four hits in the top of the third inning off Iowa starter Juan Paniagua (0-2). In his third start, Paniagua pitched his longest outing of the season, going five innings while giving up four earned runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Dodgers extended their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning before the I-Cubs cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the sixth. Young's RBI double scored John Andreoli and Victor Caratini doubled in a pair himself to make the score 4-3 Oklahoma City. All three Iowa runs came against Oklahoma City left-hander Julio Urías (2-0), who earned the win. Right-hander Josh Ravin earned his first save of the season.
Jacob Hannemann singled in his first Triple-A plate appearance with a line drive into center field in the second inning. Caratini added a 2-for-4 game.
The Iowa Cubs will take on the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Tuesday night at 7:08 p.m. for game two of the five-game series. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com
