Hoeing becomes third former Jumbo Shrimp in five days to make MLB debut

Hoeing follows left-hander Andrew Nardi (August 16, Miami Marlins) and outfielder Stone Garrett (August 17, Arizona Diamondbacks) as the third former Jumbo Shrimp in the last five days to make their MLB debuts.
Hoeing started Saturday’s contest and finished with a pair of strikeouts in Miami’s 7-0 loss to Los Angeles.
A seventh-round pick by the Marlins in the 2019 draft out of the University of Louisville, Hoeing pitched with Short Season Class A Batavia in 2019. He worked to a 4.83 ERA in 22 starts for High-A Beloit in 2021. After beginning the 2022 season with Double-A Pensacola, where he yielded only one earned run in four starts covering 25.2 innings for a 0.35 ERA, Hoeing was promoted on May 3 to Jacksonville. In 16 starts with the Jumbo Shrimp, he went 7-5 with a 5.44 ERA in 84.1 innings.
A native of Batesville, Ind., Hoeing was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks but elected to attend Louisville. He was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th round of the 2018 drafted but opted to return to Louisville for the 2019 collegiate season.
In addition to Hoeing, Garrett and Nardi, former Jumbo Shrimp infielder Joe Dunand (May 7, Miami Marlins), right-handers Chad Smith (May 29, Colorado Rockies), Jason Alexander (June 1, Milwaukee Brewers), Aneurys Zabala (June 12, Miami Marlins), Max Meyer (July 16, Miami Marlins), outfielders Jerar Encarnacion (June 19, Miami Marlins) and JJ Bleday (July 23, Miami Marlins), right-hander Huascar Brazoban (July 24, Miami Marlins), infielder Charles Leblanc (July 30, Miami Marlins), left-hander Jake Fishman (July 31, Miami Marlins) and outfielder Peyton Burdick (August 5, Miami Marlins) have also made their major league debuts thus far during the 2022 season.
Hoeing is the 954th player to don both a Jacksonville uniform and play in the major leagues, including the 116th former Jumbo Shrimp. Fourteen former Jumbo Shrimp have debuted in the majors in 2022. The history of Minor League Baseball in Jacksonville dates back to 1904.
