SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Willians Astudillo laced three extra-base hits, including a home run, and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp got six scoreless innings from their bullpen as they opened their series with a 4-0 win over the Syracuse Mets Tuesday night from NBT Bank Stadium.

Jacksonville (46-39) drew first blood, plating the first run of the game in the sixth inning. Astudillo led off the inning with a double against Syracuse (37-48) starter Thomas Szapucki (L, 2-6). He scored two batters later on a single from Jerar Encarnacion to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 1-0.

Two innings later, the Jumbo Shrimp added three more runs to take a commanding lead. On the first pitch of the inning, Astudillo (7) launched a solo home run off Syracuse pitcher Adonis Medina to put Jacksonville ahead 2-0. In the next at-bat, Lewin Díaz doubled and went to third on a balk. Following a strikeout, JJ Bleday (18) blasted a two-run home run to double the Jacksonville lead to 4-0.

The Jumbo Shrimp got a great effort from their pitching staff. Cody Poteet pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits against four strikeouts. Jake Fishman (W, 4-0) earned his fourth win, contributing two shutout innings with one hit against two strikeouts. Jeff Brigham tossed two perfect innings and struck out three. Huascar Brazoban struck out two and issued one walk in one scoreless inning of work and Robert Garcia wrapped up the game with a blank frame to seal the seventh shutout win of the season for the Jumbo Shrimp.

Jacksonville will turn to LHP Matthew Kent (4-6, 4.98) and Syracuse will counter with RHP Tim Adleman (2-0, 4.70) in Wednesday’s 6:35 p.m. contest. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. ET on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
