JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With a fantastic effort from their pitching staff, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp took a 2-1 pitchers’ duel win over the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night in front of 6,940 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Jacksonville (59-45) plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth against Memphis (54-49) Zack Thompson (L, 2-3). With two outs, Jesús Sánchez walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jordan Groshans stroked a single and Sánchez motored home to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 advantage.

Two innings later, Jacksonville added a key insurance run. Sánchez worked a two-out walk and Groshans reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a double steal and Sánchez scored from third on a wild pitch from Redbirds pitcher Kodi Whitley, putting the Jumbo Shrimp up 2-0.

The Redbirds finally broke through on the scoreboard in the eighth inning. With two outs, Evan Mendoza worked a walk and moved up to second on a single fromAlec Burleson. Ivan Herrera was the third consecutive man to reach base, singling home Mendoza to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Jumbo Shrimp leaned heavily on their pitching staff and got a great effort. Nick Neidert (W, 4-0) spun 6.0 scoreless frames, striking out four against one walk and three hits. Will Stewart allowed just one run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work. *George Soriano *(S, 6) locked up the game with 1.1 scoreless innings and just two hits allowed.

Jacksonville and Memphis wrap up their series at 6:35 p.m. on Sunday night. RHP Jeff Lindgren (2-1, 6.65 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp and the Redbirds will hand the ball to LHP Matthew Liberatore(4-4, 5.05 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
