Marlins send Anderson, Berti to rehab with Jacksonville

Both set to play for Jumbo Shrimp on Friday, August 5 at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins have announced that infielders Brian Anderson and Jon Berti have been assigned to Jacksonville to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment. Both are expected to play for the Jumbo Shrimp against the Memphis Redbirds in game four of their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Miami Marlins have announced that infielders Brian Anderson and Jon Berti have been assigned to Jacksonville to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment. Both are expected to play for the Jumbo Shrimp against the Memphis Redbirds in game four of their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. from 121 Financial Ballpark.

Anderson was placed on the 10-day IL on June 27 due to a left shoulder sprain, and Berti was placed on the 10-day IL on July 15 due to a left groin sprain. Thus far in 2022, Anderson has played 54 games with the Miami Marlins, batting .256/.346/.378/.724 with 11 doubles, one triple, three homers, 12 RBIs and 26 runs scored. Meanwhile, Berti has played 58 games, slashing .271/.365/.375/.740 with 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs 19 RBIs, 32 runs scored and 28 stolen bases in 31 attempts.

This is Anderson’s second rehab assignment with Jacksonville this season, as his first visit with the club was from June 23-27 due to lower back spasms. He also had a rehab stint with the Jumbo Shrimp in 2021 and played two stints with Jacksonville previously when they were members of the Double-A Southern League in 2016-2017. In 2016, he hit .243/.330/.359/.689 with eight home runs and 40 runs batted in. In 2017, he played in 87 games, batting .251/.341/.450/.791 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs.

Before joining the Miami Marlins, Berti was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization from 2011-2018. He played four games with the Blue Jays in 2018. On November 2, 2018, he elected free agency, and was signed by the Marlins to a minor league contract one month later. In four seasons with Miami, he is hitting .252/.348/.363/.711 in 255 games with 14 home runs and 76 RBIs.

Anderson and Berti are the ninth and 10th stints for players in 2022 to join Jacksonville on a rehab assignment, respectively, following LHP Richard Bleier (May 22), RHP Dylan Floro (April 30-May 9), Anderson (June 23-June 27), infielder Joey Wendle (June 25-June 30), RHP Cody Poteet (July 8-July 12), LHP Jesús Luzardo (July 22-July 27), RHP Edward Cabrera (July 28-present), and RHP Cole Sulser (August 4-present).
