First Legends Series giveaway features former first rounder Gordon Beckham

Legends Series giveaway pictures at all 11 Friday home games

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (March 26, 2014) - As the 20th season of baseball in Kannapolis gets underway next week, the Kannapolis Intimidators will begin recognizing former players that have gone on to play in the Major Leagues as part of the team's Legends Series giveaways at every Friday home game presented by Signsfast Superstore. The Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, host the first Legends Series night on Friday, April 4, at 7:05 p.m. featuring a Gordon Beckham picture giveaway for the first 1,000 fans. Gates open at 6 p.m.

The White Sox selected Beckham in the first round (eighth overall) in the June 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Georgia where he was named SEC Player of the Year and led the Bulldogs to a second place finish in the College World Series. Beckham made his professional debut with the Intimidators, batting .310 with three home runs and eight RBI in 14 games for Kannapolis in 2008. He made his MLB debut June 4, 2009 with the White Sox and has played at least 100 Major League games each of the last five seasons.  

Throughout the 2014 season, the Intimidators will recognize 11 different players that spent part of their minor league career in Kannapolis before eventually reaching the Major Leagues. The first 1,000 fans at each Friday home game will receive an action photo of Intimidators Legends during the season.

The Intimidators are preparing for the 20th season of professional baseball in Kannapolis and 14th as a Chicago White Sox affiliate. Opening Night of the 2014 season is Thursday, April 3, against the Greenville Drive at 7:05 p.m. Since the team came to town in 1995, a total of 77 players have gone from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues, including 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams and 2007 NL MVP Jimmy Rollins.
