KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 21, 2017) - Blake Rutherford, the White Sox recently-acquired outfield prospect, drove in two runs on a seventh inning single to break a tie ballgame, propelling the Intimidators to a 5-4 win over the Power on Friday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.  Kannapolis (11-17 Second Half, 50-46) avoided a series sweep as Rutherford - who joined the White Sox organization this week as part of a 7-player trade - finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double in his second game with the Intimidators.
With the game tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the seventh, Zach Remilalrd and Grant Massey led off the inning with base hits, and a wild pitch to Mitch Roman put both in scoring position. Rutherford came through with a one-out single up the middle, scoring Remillard and Massey for a 5-3 lead.
Mick VanVossen (4-1) earned the win, tossing a scoreless sixth and seventh inning. Jake Elliott spun a scoreless eighth, and Matt Foster allowed a run on an Adrian Valerio home run (6) in the ninth but struck out two in the inning for the save (5). West Virginia's Jordan Jess (0-3) took the loss, giving up two runs in his one inning of work.
Kannapolis led 1-0 before West Virginia plated two runs in the top of the third inning. The Intimidators responded in the home half of the inning as Alex Call blasted a 2-run home run (1) for a 3-2 lead. Nick King tied the game for the Power with an RBI-single in the top of the fourth.
Yelmison Peralta worked 5.0 innings for Kannapolis in a no decision, allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
The Intimidators welcome the Columbia Fireflies to Kannapolis on Saturday Night as the team hosts its second annual Star Wars Night featuring a light saber giveaway to the first 100 kids. Fans will have a chance to interact with Star Wars characters and enjoy post-game Star Wars-themed fireworks presented by R.H. Barringer.
