Power's Coley earns league-leading 16th win
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (September 4, 2015) - West Virginia's Austin Coley spun seven strong innings to lead the Power to a 7-1 win over the Intimidators on Friday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (29-37-1 Second Half, 63-71-1) managed five hits in the contest.
Coley (16-6) earned his league-leading 16th win, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of work. Edgar Santa worked the final two innings to close the game.
Luis Martinez (4-14) took the loss for the Intimidators, giving up four runs on three hits over six innings. His 14 losses set a new franchise record.
West Virginia scored a pair of runs in the second, fourth, and seventh innings before tacking on an extra tally in the ninth. Catcher Taylor Gushue led the Power at the plate, going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Pablo Reyes also drove in two for the Power.
Kannapolis scored its lone run in the fifth inning when Toby Thomas doubled and John Ziznewski singled to drive him in.
The Intimidators continue the final series of the 2015 regular season on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Zack Erwin (0-2, 1.69 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against West Virginia's LHP Stephen Tarpley (11-4, 2.35 ERA) at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.
