November 14, 2013

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Knights and HRN Broadcasting, Inc. have agreed on a partnership that will make ESPN Radio 730 AM the flagship home of Knights baseball beginning with Opening Day, April 11, 2014. All 144 games of the team's inaugural season at BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 730 AM, espn730.com, and charlotteknights.com.

"This is a great opportunity for us to partner with Lanny Ford and the great people at HRN Broadcasting, Inc.," said Knights Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "ESPN is a well-known name in the radio business and we are very pleased to have our brand linked with such a great outlet for sports."

As part of the agreement, ESPN Radio 730 AM will also broadcast the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game from Durham, NC, on Wednesday, July 16, as well as the 2014 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game from BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte on Tuesday, September 16.

"We are very excited to begin this partnership with the Charlotte Knights," said Lanny Ford, GM of HRN Broadcasting, Inc. "The move to Uptown is something people have talked about since they left Uptown. We are humbled to be selected as their flagship station and hope to continue for many years. To add the Knights along with the Checkers and the Charlotte 49ers continues to show our desire to be the local connection for Charlotte sports."

Returning for his 17th season as the "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" is Matt Swierad. A veteran of over 3,000 professional baseball broadcasts, Swierad began calling games for the Knights in 1998. His radio career has spanned 24 seasons, including seven years in the Class-A South Atlantic League with the Gastonia Rangers (1991-92), Hagerstown Suns (1993), and Hickory Crawdads (1994-97).

Rajkowski will appear as a guest on the station's popular "Sports Pulse" show at 5:15 p.m. today to talk about the exciting announcement. The show airs weekdays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Knights will open BB&T Ballpark on Friday night, April 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides.
