Knights Continue Partnership with WRHI

January 30, 2014

(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Knights and WRHI Radio will continue their partnership in 2014 after the club signed a contract with the Rock Hill, SC radio station today. The contract makes WRHI 1340 AM and 94.3 FM radio affiliates for the Knights throughout the upcoming season at BB&T Ballpark. WRHI will broadcast all Charlotte Knights games except mid-week day games.

"It was important to us to continue our partnership with WRHI," said Charlotte Knights Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "Manning Kimmel and the great people at WRHI Radio in Rock Hill have always been a great partner to the Knights and we are very pleased to continue this partnership. WRHI will continue to be the voice of the Charlotte Knights in South Carolina."

The Knights and WRHI originally began a radio partnership in 1991 - the team's second season at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC. For four seasons (1991-1994), WRHI was the flagship station of the Knights. The Knights and WRHI welcomed in a new partnership in 2010, as the station once again became the flagship station of the Knights. The Knights and WRHI have been together ever since.

"For nearly 20 years WRHI (94.3 FM/1340 AM) and the Charlotte Knights have partnered to bring Knights' baseball to the radio," said Manning Kimmel, Managing Partner, OTS Media. "OTS Media is pleased to continue this tradition and be South Carolina's broadcast voice as the Knights open the new BB&T Ballpark. We admire the determination of the Knights' organization to return baseball to downtown Charlotte, and for continuing their long standing commitment to York County where Knights' baseball has been played for over 20 years."

The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will return for his 17th season behind the microphone. Swierad, a veteran of over 3,000 professional baseball broadcasts, has been calling games for the Knights since 1998.

Back in November of 2013, the Knights announced that ESPN 730 AM would become the team's flagship radio station for the 2014 season. Knights games will also be heard online at charlotteknights.com, ESPN730.com, and WRHI.com. The first radio broadcast of Charlotte Knights games will air on Thursday, April 3 as the Knights open up the 2014 season on the road in Norfolk, VA against the Norfolk Tides. Coverage for that game begins at 6:50 p.m.

The Knights will open BB&T Ballpark on Friday night, April 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides. Season tickets, as well as group tickets for the 2014 inaugural season at BB&T Ballpark, are on sale now and can be purchased by phone at (980) 207-0079, by email at [email protected], or in person by stopping by the Knights Uptown Offices located at Packard Place, 222 South Church Street, 3rd floor, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
