(Las Vegas, NV) – September 23, 2022 – The Las Vegas Aviators® professional baseball team, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, announced today the 2022 season awards for the players. The Las Vegas franchise has been a member of the Pacific Coast League for 39 years (1983-2020, 2022) and one season with Triple-A West (2021).

Aviators President/COO Don Logan announced the following awards: Mayor’s Trophy: catcher Shea Langeliers; Most Valuable Player: catcher Shea Langeliers; Most Valuable Pitcher: Right-hander Collin Wiles.

The Mayor’s Trophy has been given annually since 1983 and is voted on by the fans. The previous winners of the Mayor’s Trophy:

Shea Langeliers (Mayor’s Trophy & Most Valuable Player): Shea was acquired by the Athletics from Atlanta for first baseman Matt Olson on March 14, 2022. Langeliers, the A’s top prospect, appeared in 92 games for the Aviators and batted .283 (100-for-353) with 19 doubles, 2 triples, 19 home runs and 56 RBI. He was chosen to play for American League team for 2022 Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, July 16. He was named MVP of the Futures Game (1-for-2, solo home run). Shea compiled a season-high 11-game hitting streak (July 1-22) and batted .280 (14-for-50), 4 HR, 11 RBI over that stretch. He recorded four straight multiple-hit games, April 30 – May 4 (.471, 8-for-17). He recorded a percentage of .258 in throwing out potential base stealers (24-for-93) and recorded a team-high 663.0 innings caught.

Multiple-hit games: 23 (14 two-hit games; 6 three-hit games; 3 four-hit games) and hit safely in 65 of 92 games.

April: Batted .301 (22-for-73), 9 HR, 20 RBI in 20 games

July: Batted .298 (25-for-84), 6 HR, 17 RBI in 19 games

2022 Oakland Athletics: Langeliers was promoted to Oakland on August 16. He made his Major League debut against Texas on August 16 and recorded his first major league hit on his first at-bat (double). He then recorded his first Major League home run against Texas on August 17. He has appeared in 29 games for the A’s and is batting .200 (22-for-106) with seven doubles, triple, three home runs and 14 RBI. He recorded two three-hit games: 3-for-4, double, triple, RBI vs. Seattle (August 21) and 3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI against New York Yankees (August 25). He recorded a career-high 3 RBI against Washington on September 1 (2-for-5, double, home run).

Collin Wiles (Most Valuable Pitcher): The right-hander led the Pacific Coast League in innings pitched for most of the season (143.1). Wiles appeared in 26 games (all starts) and posted a 9-11 record with a 5.40 ERA. He allowed 175 hits and struck out 106 batters. He led the staff in starts, victories, innings pitched and strikeouts. He pitched 6.0 or more innings 11 times.

April 9: defeated Reno (6.0 innings pitched, 8 hits, 2 tuns, no walks, five strikeouts)

April 23: defeated El Paso (6.0 shutout innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts)

June 18: defeated El Paso (6.0 innings pitched, 9 hits, 3 runs, no walks, season-high 9 strikeouts)

June 24: defeated Albuquerque (7.0 innings, pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs, no walks, 7 strikeouts)

June 30: lost at Round Rock (complete-game, 8.0 innings pitched, 6 hits, 3 runs, no walks, 4 strikeouts)

July 5: defeated Oklahoma City (6.0 shutout innings, 4 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts)

July 12: defeated Salt Lake (6.0 innings pitched, 8 hits, 3 runs, no walks, 4 strikeouts)

July 24: no decision at Round Rock (7.0 innings pitched, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts)

August 10: lost at Tacoma (6.2 innings pitched, 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, season-high 9 strikeouts)

September 6: defeated Sacramento (5.0 innings pitched, 5 hits, 1 run, no walks, 2 strikeouts).

Oakland Athletics: Wiles was promoted to the A’s on September 11 and made his Major League debut at Texas on September 14 and pitched 1.1 innings in relief (3 H/2 R/2 SO).

The most valuable player and most valuable pitcher were chosen by the Aviators coaching staff.

The Aviators, under manager Fran Riordan, hosts the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the final homestand of the season through Sunday, September 25 at Las Vegas Ballpark. Las Vegas will then conclude the 2022 season with a Northern California three-game series against the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, from Monday-Wednesday, September 26-28.
