*MEMPHIS, TN – *The Memphis Redbirds struggled to get the offense going in game two of a six-game series against the Indianapolis Indians on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 2-0.

Starting pitcher Jake Woodford was tremendous through six innings of work. The right-handed starter struck out six Indianapolis batters and walked just one. Woodford gets the tough-luck loss after allowing just two runs, both scoring in the bottom of the fifth.

Offensively, Wednesday afternoon’s ballgame started with some promise for Memphis. Center fielder Ben DeLuzio led off the game by barreling a baseball into the right-field corner for a triple. The Redbirds stranded DeLuzio at third and would strand another leadoff runner at third in the second inning. On the game, Memphis was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

One bright spot was second baseman Evan Mendoza. The right-handed hitter fell behind 1-2 in the count in each of his three plate appearances but was able to reach in all three of them, including a 10-pitch walk in the second inning. Mendoza ended the day 2-for-2.

The Memphis Redbirds (38-30) return to Victory Field to continue a six-game series against the Indianapolis Indians on Thursday, June 23 for a 6:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
