RockHounds Break Streak With Speed
Matt Sulentic and Archie Gilbert drove in two runs each, and Jemile Weeks went 2-for-4 with a ribbie for the 'Hounds, who broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth and led, 6-2, before denying a late San Antonio rally. As the RockHounds had done the night before, the Missions threatened late, with the tying run in scoring position when the eighth inning ended.
Ben Hornbeck didn't figure in the decision, but turned in his best performance of the early season. The lefty went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Beau Vaughan, who has been perfect in save opportunities, faced and retired five batters in the eighth and ninth to slam the door.
San Antonio's defense was, again, a factor. The Missions committed three errors and now have made eight miscues in the three games in the series. While not every one of the errors has "hurt," they have been a factor. By comparison, the Rockhounds have played errorless ball through the three games.
Speed has also been evident. While the 'Hounds do not have the classic power hitters featured on many of the recent clubs, the team has a LOT of speed. The 'Hounds stole four bases Saturday night, and rank second in the Texas League with 19 "bags" on the year.
