Offense tallies nine runs, Kruger homers for second straight game

BILOXI, Miss. (June 29, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, plated nine runs for the second straight game and defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 9-5 Friday night at MGM Park.
Jack Kruger hit his second home run of the series and third in seven games with Mobile (42-34 overall, 5-3 second half). The three-run shot off Kodi Medeiros (5-4) provided an early lead in the first inning, and the BayBears never trailed.
Jesus Castillo (6-4) tossed five scoreless innings before the Shuckers (45-33, 4-4) came alive in the sixth. Corey Ray hit an RBI double to get Biloxi on the board. Former BayBear Gabriel Noriega 's two-out grand slam trimmed Mobile's lead to 8-5 and knocked Castillo out of the game.
Ralston Cash and Tyler Stevens proceeded to retire 10 consecutive batters to finish the game. Cash got the final out of the sixth inning and worked a 1-2-3 seventh in his BayBears debut. Stevens recorded a six-out save, his fourth with Mobile and sixth of the year.
Luis Rengifo recorded his 14th multi-hit game and drove in a pair of runs. He also stole his 33rd base of the season, which is tied for the second-most in all of Minor League Baseball.
Jared Walsh hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning, his 20th of the season. The BayBears have hit a long ball in each of the last nine games, with a total of 15 since June 17.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Biloxi Saturday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Joe Gatto (1-3, 10.13 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Thomas Jankins (8-3, 4.44 ERA) for the Shuckers.
