MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 28, 2018) - Griffin Canning , Matt Custred , and Ryan Clark combined to throw the second no-hitter in the history of the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The BayBears blanked the Montgomery Biscuits 1-0 Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Canning (1-0) tossed five hitless innings in his third Double-A start to earn the first win of his professional career. He pitched out of bases-loaded jam in the third and held Montgomery (8-15) scoreless, despite walking six batters.
Custred and Clark combined to keep the Biscuits out of the run and hit columns for the final four frames. Custred set down nine of the 10 batters he faced, issuing just one walk in the seventh inning. Clark retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth and struck out pinch-hitter Ryan Boldt to complete the no-hitter.

Matt Thaiss provided the lone run for the BayBears (11-11) with a solo homer in the fifth inning off J.D. Martin (0-4). Thaiss had a multi-hit night after going hitless in the first two games of the series.
Saturday was the second no-hitter in BayBears history. Archie Bradley , Matt Gorgen , Derek Eitel , Willy Paredes , and Jake Barrett combined to hold Huntsville hitless on August 14, 2013.
The BayBears recently flirted with a no-hitter Wednesday against Mississippi. However, the Braves broke it up with a leadoff double in the top of the ninth inning.
The BayBears continue a five-game road series against Montgomery Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CDT. Southpaw Jose Suarez (1-0, 2.08 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Eduar Lopez (1-2, 7.02 ERA) for the Biscuits.
