Vallee Runs Wild, Goodwin Smacks Four Hits in Wednesday Loss

MANCHESTER, NH – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ (15-20, 49-53) fell on Wednesday at Delta Dental Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs (20-15, 55-48), 15-4. Fisher Cats’ center fielder Mathieu Vallee tied the single-game franchise record with four stolen bases and reached three times in the loss.
In his second game back with the Cats, shortstop Nick Goodwin totaled four hits and added an RBI. Goodwin’s four hit performance was the first of his career.
New Hampshire starter Mason Olson allowed a pair of runs on one hit, three walks, and struck out three in 4-1/3 innings. Relievers Austin Marozas (L, 1-1), Jonathan Todd, and Kelena Sauer tossed the final 4-2/3 innings in the loss.
Portland starter Dalton Rogers allowed three runs, two earned, in 4-2/3 innings. Right-hander Max Carlson (W, 4-2) fired three frames and notched the win. Jedixson Paez (SV, 3) recorded the final four outs of the game.

Locked in a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth, the Sea Dogs’ offense exploded for three runs. With one away, shortstop Mason White singled. Two batters later, third baseman Max Ferguson walked. Second baseman Ahbram Liendo clubbed an RBI knock and gave Portland the lead. Following a mound visit, left fielder Matt Frazier lined a two-run double which gave the Sea Dogs a three-run advantage.
Portland extended the lead on a solo home run from Will Turner (12) in the seventh. In the eighth, New Hampshire’s Cutter Coffey added a run on an RBI single, 7-4.
The Sea Dogs blew the game open in the ninth with eight runs. Highlighting the frame was a pair of home runs hit by right fielder Tyler McDonough (6, 7). The Fisher Cats went scoreless in the ninth and lost, 15-4.
Portland struck first in the top of the third. Ferguson was hit by a pitch and swiped second. Two batters later, Frazier ripped an RBI single and made it 1-0.
New Hampshire tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Vallee reached on an error. The newcomer quickly stole second and third. Following a flyout, Goodwin laced an RBI double and tied the game at one.
The Sea Dogs answered in the fifth. With one out, Liendo walked and stole second. Frazier delivered another big hit, an RBI double that gave Portland the lead. The next batter, McDonough, singled which extended the lead to 3-1.
The Cats battled back in the bottom of the fifth. With one away, designated hitter Jacob Sharp smashed a double. One hitter later, Vallee rolled an RBI single which made it a one-run game. After balk and stolen base, second baseman JR Freethy popped a sacrifice fly and tied the game, 3-3.
The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs continue their six-game series on Thursday, August 6 with a 6:03 PM first pitch. Right-hander Gage Stanifer (3-7, 5.11 ERA) will start for the Cats, and the Sea Dogs will counter with lefty Hayden Mullins (3-3, 5.52 ERA).
