Flurry of Roster Moves on Thursday

(Fort Mill, SC) - Outfielder Michael Earley, who was hitting .282 with 15 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 29 RBIs in 62 games for the Double-A Birmingham Barons, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Also being promoted from Birmingham today are right-handed pitchers Nick McCully and Taylor Thompson. To make room for the three new players, the White Sox have released infielder Lars Anderson and right-handed pitcher Jeff Gray. The Knights active roster is now at 25 players. 
 
Earley, 25, hit .291 with 13 home runs and 73 RBIs last season in 124 games for High-A Winston-Salem. The Indiana native tied for the Carolina League lead in triples (7), finished third in total bases (212), and finished fifth in hits (132), RBIs (73), and runs scored (76). Earley is a product of Indiana University and was a 29th round selection of the White Sox in the 2010 draft.

McCully, 24, posted a 7-3 record with a 3.08 ERA in 19 games (12 starts) for the Barons this season. The Lakeland, FL native won seven straight decisions from April 10-June 25 this season and has allowed three earned runs or less in 11 of 12 starts. He posted a 4-1 record with a 1.51 ERA in six home games (five starts) this season. 

Thompson, 26, has pitched in 32 games for Birmingham this season and compiled a 4-2 mark with 12 saves and a 2.15 ERA. He also posted 12 saves last season for Winston-Salem (A+) and ranked second in the organization in saves. Thompson appeared in two games for the Knights in 2009 and did not allow a run in four innings. He was drafted in the 44th round of the 2009 draft out of Auburn University.  

Gray posted a 2-1 record with two saves and a 3.27 ERA in 17 games for the Knights this season. Anderson was hitting .194 with two home runs and 14 RBIs over 66 games with Charlotte this year. White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise was also returned to Chicago from his Major League Baseball rehab assignment.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m. tonight as the Charlotte Knights will host the Norfolk Tides in game one of a two-game series. Tonight's game features Thirsty Thursday ™ with $2 beers and $1 sodas, thanks to Hickory Tavern. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. RHP Jason Berken (7-9, 3.89) will take the mound for the Knights in tonight's opener. 

On Friday, the Knights will conclude their quick two-game series with the 7:15 p.m. finale against the Tides. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Knights Throwback Hat, courtesy of TruGreen.
