Rome Falls in Both Games of Doubleheader

Rome, GA - It was a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at State Mutual Stadium between the GreenJackets and Braves. Two seven innings games were scheduled because of last night's postponement due to rain. Augusta swept both games 5-3, 4-0 before a crowd of 1,804.
In game one, Orlando Garcia got things going for the GreenJackets in the first inning with a two RBI single making it a 2-0 game. Rome cut the lead in half in the third on Riley Delgado's sacrifice fly RBI but Augusta got the run right back in the fourth on Garcia's (4) home run for the 3-1 score. In the fifth, the GreenJackets added two more runs on Trevor Adams' single to plate a run giving Augusta a 5-1 lead. Rome came back in the sixth on Jefry Ramos' (9) two run homer to right center for the 5-3 score. The Braves went quietly in the seventh and Augusta held on for the win. Starter Garrett Cave (5-4) earns the win and Alan Rangel (2-5) gets the loss. John Russell (4) picks up the save.
Pitching was the name of the game for game two as both teams were held scoreless through the first six innings. In the seventh, Kelvin Rodriguez came into the game in relief of starter Hayden Deal and Augusta loaded the bases with two outs. Shane Matheny singled home two runs and Heliot Ramos added a two RBI double for the 4-0 score. Rome failed to score in the seventh and Augusta enjoyed the 4-0 shutout victory. John Gavin (2-4) is credited with the win and Rodriguez (2-3) the loss. Gavin enjoyed a solid outing going the seven inning complete game allowing no runs and just two hits.
