The Norfolk Tides defeated the Durham Bulls, 8-2, in four-and-a-half-inning shortened game due to rain Friday night. The game had two rain delays, with an hour and 16 minute delay to start and a 33 minute delay to finish. The Tides never looked back after six-run first inning, while Tides' starter Mike Baumann had full control on the mound to earn a complete game win in his Triple-A debut.
The Bulls went up, 2-0, in the first inning after three consecutive hits. A double by right fielder Ryan Boldt scored shortstop Taylor Walls, after Walls reached with a double of his own to right-center field. Boldt was then brought home after a single by first baseman Dalton Kelly. Bauman settled down after a mound visit and ended the inning with his first career Triple-A strikeouts to leave one on base for the Bulls.
The Tides then score six in the first inning after Bulls pitcher Tony Romero couldn't finish the first inning. The first score came from a two-run single from left fielder Kelvin Gutierrez to bring in shortstop Mason McCoy and right fielder Robert Neustrom with the bases loaded. A Ryan Bannon walk brings in Tyler Nevin to bring the score to 3-0 after the bases were loaded again with a hit-by-pitch drawn by Brent Cumberland.
Kenny Rosenberg relieved Romero after one-third of an inning pitched after Romero let up four walks and 3 runs in the first inning. For his third double of the year J.C. Escarra brings in three after a hit deep to right field that extends the score to 6-2 for the Tides.
