JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Norfolk Tides (9-11) beat the the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (11-9), 11-5, on Saturday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. Coby Mayo launched two of Norfolk’s four home runs, while the Tides bullpen didn’t allow a run through 5.1 innings.

Norfolk struck early tonight, scoring in the top of the first for the second straight game. Following a leadoff double from Connor Norby, Coby Mayo launched a two-run home run, his sixth of the season, to put the Tides up 2-0. Jacksonville added a run back in the bottom of the second when Triston Gray launched a solo home run to make it 2-1 Norfolk.

Jacksonville tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-2 and give them their first lead of the game. Norfolk responded quickly and tied the game back up in the top of the fifth. Norby got things start with a two-run home run that scored Shayne Fontana and brought the Tides within one. After a Heston Kjerstad single, Mayo doubled him in to knot the game up at 5-5.

Following two straight walks to lead off the top of the sixth, Noelberth Romero plated Peyton Burdick on a sacrifice fly to give Norfolk a 6-5 lead. In the top of the seventh, Mayo extended the Tides lead to 9-5 with a three-run home run, his second of the day. Daniel Johnson followed up three batters later with a three-run homer, his first of the season, giving Norfolk an 11-5 lead.

RHP Kyle Bradish (0-0, 0.00) will start for Norfolk in his first Tides start since July 24, 2022, while LHP Patrick Monteverde (2-0, 1.80) takes the mound for Jacksonville as Norfolk vies to split the series with the Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch at 1:05 p.m.

POSTGAME NOTES

Connor Can Hit: Collecting his second straight multi-hit game tonight was Connor Norby, who finished the night 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBI, a walk and a run...it marked his 13th game with multiple extra base hits, with the home run being his fifth of the season...Norby now has 48 doubles, 30 home runs and 117 RBI through 166 games with the Tides.

Extra Mayo: Launching two home runs in the win tonight was Coby Mayo, who finished 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs, six RBI and a run...that marked his sixth multi-homer game of his career and second this season...the six RBI tie a career high for Mayo, a mark he reached once before on September 15, 2022 with Bowie at Akron...he is now tied for second in the International League in home runs (7), tying third in RBI (19), sitting behind teammate Heston Kjerstad in both categories.

Comin’ in Hot: Norfolk’s bullpen worked 5.1 scoreless innings tonight in relief of Justin Armbruester, allowing just two hits while striking out five batters...the started handed it off to Nick Vespi, who allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out three batters in 2.1 innings...after Bryan Baker worked a perfect seventh inning, Matt Krook struck out a batter in a scoreless inning, and Wandisson Charles closed the door with a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.
