From tailgating to broadcasting, the Blue Wahoos had a strong presence at the 71st Reese's Senior Bowl.
Along with the near-sellout crowd inside Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium, thousands of people were partying outside the stadium in designated tailgate areas. The Blue Wahoos had one of the company vans, Blue Wahoos tent and group of employees enjoying the pregame festivities before watching Saturday's game.
Meanwhile, inside the stadium, Blue Wahoos owner Quint Studer, along with former NFL All-Pro lineman Josh Sitton made their broadcasting debut. They joined with WPNN Paul Chestnutt on the play-by-play radio broadcast from the stadium press box.
It was the sixth time Chestnutt has led a play-by-play broadcast of the Reese's Senior Bowl game, his 15th overall as a media member covering the all-star showcase for NFL prospects. The group were together on the field before the game as well.
Sitton, who grew up in Pensacola, played prep football at Pensacola Catholic and University of Central Florida, before his lengthy, decorated NFL career as offensive lineman and Super Bowl winner (Green Bay Packers), had never attended the Senior Bowl.
Now business owner of Bear3 Construction on Palafox Street, a business partner of the Blue Wahoos, Sitton provided insight on the broadcast that only a former NFL player could deliver. He joined Chestnutt and coach David Wilson, director of Studer 55/Community Athletics for most of the first half.
"If Josh wants to, he could go on NFL Network radio or any of stations and do it right now. He was that good," Chestnutt said.
Studer joined the broadcast for the second quarter, talking about the game, the Senior Bowl partnership with the Blue Wahoos and other topics.
"It was awesome having both of them with me," Chestnutt said. "I think they really enjoyed themselves."
Blue Wahoos team president Jonathan Griffith drove a group of front office staff to Mobile to enjoy the tailgating and game festivities. The Blue Wahoos hosted a Senior Bowl Night during the 2019 season, giving away 1,000 ticket vouchers to fans entering the stadium for the baseball game to redeem for Saturday's game.
It followed the Senior Bowl Caravan on Friday to Pensacola with six players and a free clinic/autograph session at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
