The house won’t be haunted, but the ballpark will transform when the Blue Wahoos host their annual “Wahooloween” on Saturday.

During the last several years, this has become one of the most popular, non-sporting events, at the bayfront stadium.

“We have taken a little bit from every Wahooloween that we’ve hosted and tried to make it even better for the community and attendees,” said Shannon Hannah, the Blue Wahoos event sales manager. “Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love to celebrate Halloween in the community.

“As a mom of two young children, I am so excited we can create a good, safe spot for kids and parents to go trick-or-treating and run around and be safe in the confines of the stadium.”

This year, trick-or-treating will be on two levels.

The concourse area, along with the field itself, will have decorated Halloween booths and tables set up from more than 25 area business involved in the festivities.

“We just thought by doing it this way and utilizing the wide concourse, it would spread people out more,” Hannah said. “We wanted to reduce the number of lines. We wanted people to be able to come in and out of the trick-or-treat booths as they want to, and not feel like they have to be shuffled around in one big line.”

Tickets are $7 apiece. A reminder that Blue Wahoos Stadium is a cashless venue for tickets, concessions and merchandise. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the stadium concession areas.

With the wide expanse of a baseball stadium, along with parking areas fronting the stadium, the “Wahooloween” event allows room and safety for costumed children. At this event, parents have also dressed up with their kids, along with adults without kids making it a social experience.

“It is so special,” Hannah said. “What an opportunity to provide this for the community and create this fun, annual family event to look forward to.

“It is such a joy to be able to do that and for the businesses… to see them so happy, because they are able to give back to the community in this manner as well.

“It is an easy experience. Sometimes, trick-or-treating can be overwhelming. This is easy. You come in, we have a giant parking lot, you walk into the gates and you are free to roam everywhere.”

Hannah said local businesses have made this an annual sign-up and decorate their booths, tables and the people staff the booths are in costumes.

“I love offering this to businesses,” she said. “It is such a great opportunity for us to support local businesses here. They are free to bring a sign for their business and promote that.

“So, not only are we providing trick-or-treat booths for kids, which they love, but we are also allowing businesses to come in and advertise to thousands of guests with no cost to them.”
