Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday, the Sixers fifth consecutive loss and third in a row at the hands of the Quakes. Jordan Zimmerman collected the 66ers' only extra-base hit and multi-game while knocking in both runs of a 10-2 loss to the Quakes (44-37, 9-2).
The Sixers got a run in the first inning against Quakes RHP Isaac Anderson when Jahmai Jones singled to open the game and then eventually scored on Zimmerman's two-out RBI single. It would be the lone runs that Anderson (3-5) allowed in his five frames giving up four total hits and no walks with six Ks. The Quakes answered in the first against IE starter Simon Mathews (1-3) on an RBI single from Cristian Santana. Rancho took a lead in the fourth on Logan Landon's RBI single and a 3-1 lead advantage in the fifth on Nick Yarnall's solo homer. Yarnall finished the day with a single, double, homer (2) and a walk. After Eduardo Rivera got out of a bases loaded jam after the homer by Yarnall but could not escape the sixth when the Quakes unloaded for six runs and a 9-1 lead highlighted by Santana's three-run double and a two run homer from C Hamlet Marte. Landon added another RBI single in the eighth. The Sixers did push a run across in the ninth on Zimmerman's RBI triple. Quakes pitching had a stretch from the fourth through the eighth in which they sat down Inland Empire (37-44, 4-7) 13 batters in row. Inland Empire struck out nine times in the game as Quakes pitchers have fanned 40 batters in first three games of the five-game set.
