Sea Dogs Win in Grand Fashion in Six-Game Sweep of Fightin Phils

READING, PA – The Portland Sea Dogs secured their second-straight, six-game series sweep of an opponent with a 15-4 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils. The 15 runs and 20 hits are both new season-highs while the Sea Dogs continue their winning streak and now have won 13-in-a-row.

With his home run today, Devlin Granberg has now hit home runs in three-straight games. Granberg finished the day 4-for-6 with three runs and four RBI. Pedro Castellanos also hit his tenth homer of the year, a new career-high in a season. The Sea Dogs have now swept opponents in back-to-back six-game series after sweeping the Hartford Yard Goats last week.

Josh Winckowski was awarded his fifth win of the season tossing 5.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three. Adam Leverett was given the loss pitching 2.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out one.

Jeisson Rosario led off the game with a home run to right field. Pedro Casetllanos then doubled to left field and scored on an RBI single by Tyreque Reed and the Sea Dogs led, 2-0.

Granberg blasted a two-run homer to left field in the top of the second inning extending Portland’s lead, 4-0.

The Sea Dogs plated two more in the top of the third inning. Hudson Potts singled to left field then moved to third on a single by Ronaldo Hernandez. Jhonny Pereda then singled him home and moved to second when Grant Williams drew a walk. Rosario then lined a hard-hit single to centerfield and Pereda was able to score. Portland led 6-0 after three innings.

In the top of the fourth inning, Granberg led off with an infield single that bounced off Reading’s pitcher and advanced to third on a single by Tyreque Reed. Potts then popped up a sacrifice fly to left field and Granberg came home to extend the Sea Dogs’ lead, 7-0.

The Fightin Phils scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Miller belted a two-run homer to right field off Portland’s starter Winckowski and Reading was on the board, 7-2.

With one-out in the top of the fifth inning, Grant Williams and Pedro Castellanos each recorded singles while Jeisson Rosario was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases. Granberg then sent a two-run single up the middle and the Sea Dogs continued to lead, 9-2. Reed drew a walk to load the bases again. Hudson Potts then smashed a grand slam to the videoboard in left field. Potts now has six homers this year. Back-to-back doubles by Ryan Fitzgerald and Ronaldo Hernandez drove home another run and Portland led 14-2.

After a leadoff walk by Luke Miller, he came around to score on a fielding error by Jeisson Rosario, but the Fightin Phils continued to trail, 14-3.

Pedro Castellanos recorded his tenth homer of the year with two-outs in the top of the eighth inning, extending Portland’s lead 15-3.

Grenny Cumana hit a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Fightin Phils fell 15-4.
