Brannon Clobbers 20th Homer of the Year in 9-3 Win

Richmond, VA – The Portland Sea Dogs (28-27, 63-60) took down the Richmond Flying Squirrels (28-26, 71-51) on Friday night at CarMax Park, 9-3, for their third consecutive win.

Brooks Brannon demolished his 20^th homer of the year in the sixth inning and now has 60 RBI on the year. Every Sea Dog in the lineup collected a hit while five had multi-hit games. Tyler McDonough and Will Turner each recorded multiple extra base hits.

The Sea Dogs jumped on Richmond’s starter, Charlie McDaniel, in the first inning. After a leadoff double by Tyler McDonough, he scored on an RBI single by Justin Gonazles single to right field. Ronald Rosario then blasted a two-run homer to right field and Portland led, 3-0.

Portland extended their lead to five runs with a two-run home run to left field by McDonough in the top of the second inning.

The Flying Squirrels plated their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. With two-outs, Trevor Cohen and Dayson Croes reached on back-to-back singles off Devin Futrell. Jose Astudillo drove them both home with a two-run single and Richmond was on the board, 5-2.

The Sea Dogs continued scoring into the ninth inning capitalizing on a leadoff single by Brannon. Henry Godbout then singled to join him on the basepaths. Will Turner ripped a two-run double to right field and Portland continued to lead, 9-3.

LHP Devin Futrell (2-0, 4.09 ERA) was awarded the win tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out seven. LHP Charlie McDaniel (3-4, 5.60 ERA) was given the loss pitching 4.0 innings allowing five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out four.

The Sea Dogs and Flying Squirrels will meet again tomorrow, Saturday August 28 at 7:05pm at CarMax Park. LHP Michael Sansone (3-3, 5.36 ERA) will start for Portland while LHP Greg Farone (5-10, 5.65 ERA) is scheduled to start for Richmond.
