Sea Dogs Slug Three Home Runs in 8-4 Win

Portland, Maine – The Portland Sea Dogs (35-32)(70-65) reached the 70-win mark with a decisive 8-4 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (34-33)(61-75) on Friday night, helped out by a pair of Major League rehab appearances.

Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two RBI, and two strikeouts. RHP Tanner Houck allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.

Henry Godbout recorded his sixth straight multi-hit game with a single and a double. He scored one run and drove in. Portland recorded another three-homer night, as Brooks Brannon, Ronald Rosario, and Will Turner all went yard.

RHP Yordanny Monegro made a triumphant return to Portland following his recovery from Tommy John surgery in 2025. He allowed one run on a solo home run with one strikeout in 3.0 innings pitched.

The Sea Dogs batted around and exploded for seven runs in the second inning. Rosario led off with a walk before Turner blasted the first Portland home run of the night. The Sea Dogs scored five more runs on two outs. Ahbram Liendo and Justin Gonzales walked in back-to-back at bats. Godbout doubled to drive in Liendo, and Contreras singled, driving in both Gonzales and Godbout. With Contreras on base, Brannon hit a line drive home run to right-center field, and it was 7-0 Sea Dogs.

Eli Serrano III led off the fourth inning with a solo homer, driving Monegro from the game. Houck entered and quickly shut down the side.

Rosario’s solo homer came in the fifth, extending Portland’s lead to 8-1.

The Rumble Ponies added one more run in each of the sixth and the seventh innings. In the sixth, Marco Vargas led off with a triple, eventually scoring when he and Serrano executed a double steal. Former Sea Dog Eddinson Paulino hit a solo shot in the seventh.

Trailing 8-3, RHP Cooper Adams struck out the first batter he faced in the ninth, before a walk and two singles drove in a run for Binghamton. Adams bounced back with another strikeout and a groundout to secure the 8-4 win.

RHP Tanner Houck (1-0, 4.91 ERA) earned the win, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. The loss went against the starter RHP R.J. Gordon (5-9, 5.03 ERA), who allowed six runs on four hits and three walks in 1.2 innings pitched.

Tomorrow night, the Sea Dogs will celebrate their annual fan appreciation night. They will wear throwback 1926 replica jerseys and emerge from Field of Dreams-esque rows of corn in center field, a tradition since 1994. RHP Morgan McSweeney (1-1, 7.79 ERA) will face RHP Gabe Davis (1-0, 2.70 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Delta Dental Park.
