Pulaski, Virginia - The 2017 Pulaski Yankees coaching staff has been unveiled by the New York Yankees. Field manager Luis Dorante headlines the new additions to this year's staff.
Dorante is set to become the second skipper in Pulaski Yankees history. He takes over for Tony Franklin who led the club to a record of 74-60 over two seasons, including a first place finish in the Appalachian League's East Division in 2015.
Dorante enters his sixth season in the Yankees organization. He served as the first base coach for the Double-A Trenton Thunder in 2012 and 2013, before managing the Single-A Charleston RiverDogs for the past three seasons from 2014-2016. This will be his 15th season as a minor league manager. He also has spent time coaching at the major league level, most recently as the Pittsburg Pirates bullpen coach from 2008-2010.
"I am looking forward to being a part of the Pulaski family. I will make sure we have a wonderful season and give the town exciting games", Durante remarked about the upcoming season.
Gerardo Casadiego was named pitching coach for the 2017 season, his first with Pulaski. He spent 2016 as the pitching coach for a Yankees Dominican Summer League affiliate. Casadiego pitched nine seasons in the minor leagues, including parts of the 2006 and 2007 seasons in the Yankees organization, reaching as high as the AA level with the Trenton Thunder.
Scott Seabol will take over as hitting coach, and is another newcomer to this year's coaching staff. Seabol played 14 years at the professional level, making his MLB debut in his sole appearance for the 2001 New York Yankees. He also played in 59 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2002. Seabol had a 35 game hitting streak in 1999 for the then Yankees Single A affiliate Greensboro Bats, which established a South Atlantic League record which has since been broken.
Danny Russo will return to Pulaski as the strength and conditioning coach, a role he served in during the club's inaugural 2015 campaign. He spent 2016 with the Staten Island Yankees of the short season Single A New York-Penn League. Nick Avanzato will again serve as video manager, marking his third season with the organization. Manny Ozoa will be another familiar face around Calfee Park, as he will return as head athletic trainer.
Opening day at Calfee Park is set for June 22nd, as the Yankees will host the Princeton Rays. The Pulaski Pinstripers will look to improve upon last year's 29-37 record.
