Fightins blast six homers in win over Sea Dogs

(Portland, ME) - The Reading Fightin Phils (17-27) hit six home runs against the Portland Sea Dogs (16-29) to win 12-5 at Hadlock Field on Friday night. The last time Reading hit five or more home runs in a game was on June 1, 2017 vs. Portland. Deivi Grullon homered

(Portland, ME) - The Reading Fightin Phils (17-27) hit six home runs against the Portland Sea Dogs (16-29) to win 12-5 at Hadlock Field on Friday night. The last time Reading hit five or more home runs in a game was on June 1, 2017 vs. Portland.
Deivi Grullon homered off Portland's Mike Shawaryn in the top of the second inning with two outs to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead. The home run was Grullon's eighth of the season. Emmanuel Marrero hit his first home run of the season off Shawaryn in the top of the third inning to give the Fightins a 2-0 lead.
The Sea Dogs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning as Tony Renda homered off JoJo Romero (2-4) to cut the Fightins lead to 2-1. Marrero homered again in the top of the sixth inning off Sea Dogs reliever Jake Cosart to give the Fightin Phils a 4-1 lead. This was the first multi-home run game of his career.
Portland scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Romero to tie the game at 4-4. Jeremy Rivera homered and Jantzen Witte hit a two-run home run to tie the game.
The Fightin Phils chased Jake Cosart (1-2) out of the game in the top of the seventh inning as they scored four runs to take an 8-4 lead. Grullon hit a RBI single then Jan Hernandez added a three-run home run. The home run was his third of the season.   Damek Tomscha and Zach Green hit back-to-back home runs off Adam Lau in the top of the eighth inning to give the Fightins an 11-4 lead.   Tomscha's home run was a two-run home run.
Portland got a run off Luke Leftwich in the bottom of the eighth inning as Josh Tobias hit a RBI double to score Tate Matheny . Malquin Canelo hit a sacrifice fly off Jordan Weems to give the Fightins their twelfth run of the game. Alexis Rivero pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to finish out the game for the Fightin Phils.
Tomscha (triple) and Hernandez (double) were both one hit shy of the cycle.
