Bulls sweep Wings with Sunday win

The Durham Bulls beat the Rochester Red Wings 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field, sweeping the three-game series. The Wings will return home on Tuesday, June 19 for a six-game homestand that includes an appearance by former Bills kicker Scott Norwood, and Batman Night with "Gotham" star David Mazouz.

After two scoreless innings, Durham put the first run on the board in the top of the third after Wings starter Zack Littell walked Brandon Snyder with the bases loaded, scoring Micah Johnson and giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
Durham extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning with a three-RBI double from Andrew Velazquez.
The Wings got their first run of the day in the fourth inning, when Wynston Sawyer hit a sacrifice fly to center field off Bulls starter Chih-Wei Hu. The sac fly scored LaMonte Wade from third to make the score 4-1.
Tyler Duffey took the mound for the Wings in the top of the fifth, meaning Littell's day was over after 4.0 innings pitched having thrown 86 pitches, 48 of them for strikes, and giving up four runs, all earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
Colin Poche came on in relief in the sixth inning for the Bulls, ending Hu's day. Hu struck out two on 70 pitches, 42 for strikes, while giving up only one run on four hits and two walks.
Durham added two more runs to their lead in the top of the seventh after a fielding error allowed Nick Ciuffo to score, and a single by Micah Johnson off of Nick Anderson brought Jeremy Hazelbaker home to put the Bulls up 6-1.
Alan Busenitz set down all six batters he faced in relief, all on groundball outs.
The Bulls out-hit the Red Wings 9-5.

THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY
 1976 - Rochester outlasted the Charleston Charlies in a 14 inning 9-8 victory. The game finally ended when Kiko Garcia scored on a Taylor Duncan RBI single in the bottom of the 14th. Manager Joe Altobelli was forced to use 18 of his 21 players, including seven pitchers, throughout the course of the game.
THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY
1926 - The Baltimore Orioles, champions of the International League for seven straight seasons, get a big win over Syracuse thanks to the Orioles' talented infield. Second baseman Heinie Scheer and shortstop Joe Boley turn a double play in six consecutive innings against the Stars. The Baltimore infield executes a twin killing in each frame from the 3rd to the 8th to lead the Orioles to victory. Despite fielding another very talented team in 1926, Baltimore would not be able to continue its run of League Championships. The Orioles finished 101-65 - an impressive record, but 8.0 games behind pennant-winning Toronto.

1972 - Hank Aaron hits his 14th career grand slam, tying Gil Hodges's N.L. record, as the Braves defeat the Phillies 15-3. It is career home run 649 for Aaron, enabling him to pass Willie Mays for second place on the all-time list. 
1981 - Phillies first baseman Pete Rose singles off Nolan Ryan in the first inning to tie Stan Musial as the N.L.'s all-time hit leader with 3,630, then strikes out in his next three at-bats. Rose's single is the only hit off Ryan until the eighth inning, when Philadelphia scores five times for a 5-4 win over Houston.
