Lehigh Valley got off to an early start against Red Wings' starter Drew Hutchison. Austin Listi hit a wall-scraping three-run home run to right in the top of the first to get out to a 3-0 lead.
In his fifth start with the Red Wings, Hutchison threw 5.0 innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, one walk, and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts. 57 of his 91 pitches were for strikes. Cody Allen came on in relief to begin the top of the sixth.
The Wings finally put up some resistance to IronPigs' starter Damon Jones in the bottom of the sixth. Wilin Rosario drew a walk, followed by a single by Jaylin Davis. Lehigh Valley went to the bullpen and brought in Tyler Gilbert with one out in the inning. Tomas Telis came to the plate and tied the game with a three-run home run to dead center. His sixth home run of the season made it a 3-3 game.
Jones finished his outing throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs, four walks, and striking out six. He threw 94 pitches, 55 for strikes.
Allen threw a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout before Fernando Romero came on to pitch in the seventh. Romero pitched a clean seventh inning but ran in trouble in the eighth when he gave up three hits, including an RBI single to Jan Hernandez giving Lehigh Valley a 4-3 lead.
Rochester tied the game again in the bottom of the eighth. Davis continued the hot hitting that earned him International League Batter of the Week last week and crushed a 400-foot home run to right. It was his 10th of the season with the Wings and his second in as many days, bringing the score even at 4-4.
Cody Stashak entered the game in the top of the ninth and threw an impressive eight-pitch inning with two strikeouts.
The Red Wings took advantage of a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth. Drew Maggi started the rally with a sharp single to left to get on-base. Nick Gordon hit a single to left in the next at bat that allowed Maggi to advance to third. Maggi took off from third as left fielder Nick Williams held the ball and was able to cross the plate, scoring a walk-off run that secured the Red Wings a 5-4 win.
