CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 2, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, led by four runs after six innings and came just one out shy of a victory but fell 7-6 to the Chattanooga Lookouts in 10 innings Sunday evening at AT&T Field.
Jeremy Beasley recorded his second straight quality start, lasting a season-high six innings for the second time on the road trip. Beasley gave up a pair of unearned runs in the first two frames and struck out four batters. He did not factor in the decision.
After both teams squandered a pair of early one-run leads, the BayBears (21-34) surged ahead 6-2 with five runs in the middle three innings. After Erick Salcedo the game with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth, Brendon Sanger put Mobile back in front with an RBI single the next inning. Roberto Baldoquin followed with a two-run single, and Bo Way added to the lead with a solo home run in the sixth.
However, the BayBears blew a save for the second straight night. Chattanooga (30-25) cut the lead to 6-3 on a wild pitch in the seventh and mounted a late rally with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Taylor Trammell singled, Ibandel Isabel drew a walk, and Mitch Nay tied the game with a home run.
The BayBears failed to score against Joel Kuhnel (2-2) in the top of the 10th, and Brantley Bell hit a walk-off single off Adrian Almeida (1-1) in the bottom of the inning.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Chattanooga Monday at 6:15 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Matt Ball (1-2, 4.06 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Tejay Antone (6-3, 3.23 ERA) for the Lookouts.
