Taylor and Fabiaschi Added To Active Roster

April 14, 2013

Catcher Beau Taylor and infielder Michael Fabiaschi will join the active roster for the start of a three game series with Arkansas on Sunday.  Taylor spent the early part of the season in Arizona in extended spring, while Fabiaschi had played six games in Single-A Stockton.

The RockHounds will carry three catchers (Taylor, Freitas and Lipkin) for now and 12 active pitchers, as Sergio Perez is still on the DL with an injured groin.  Both Taylor (36 games) and Fabiaschi (3 games) spent a small portion of the 2012 season with the RockHounds and will round out the active roster at 25.

Yesterday, Darren Byrd and Tyler Ladendorf were promoted to Triple-A Sacramento and pitcher Mike DeMark was added from extended spring, which had opened up an extra roster spot after the team had been going with 24 of 25 active spots.

Murphy Smith and Arnold Leon will flip spots in the rotation, with Smith getting the ball on Sunday and Leon on Monday.  Smith will be on normal rest due to the travel day last Wednesday.  Smith has been lights out in his first two starts, posting a 0.82 ERA.  Gates open at 3:30 PM on Sunday for the 4:00 PM first pitch.  Tickets still remain and are on sale now.
