Padres Pitchers Matt Waldron, Bryan Hoeing to Rehab with Missions 

SAN ANTONIO (May 19, 2025) — San Diego Padres pitchers Matt Waldron and Bryan Hoeing will join the San Antonio Missions on a rehab assignment on Tuesday, May 20 as the Missions begin a six-game homestand against the Wichita Wind Surge. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. for AARP $2 Tuesday.

Waldron, who has become well-known for throwing the rare knuckleball, played for the Missions in 2021 and 2022. He made 16 starts across two seasons for San Antonio, and in 2022, he went 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA before getting called up to Triple-A El Paso. Waldron made his MLB debut with the Padres in 2023 and has since made 35 appearances, including 32 starts, with San Diego.

Hoeing has a unique Missions connection despite never playing in San Antonio. The Padres acquired Hoeing on July 30, 2024, in a trade with the Miami Marlins that sent former Missions Adam Mazur, Graham Pauley and Robby Snelling to the Marlins. Hoeing quickly became a trusted reliever for the Padres last season, going 1-1 with a 1.52 ERA in 18 appearances after the trade. The righty also pitched throughout the Padres’ playoff run.
