Reyes Homers and Drives in Two as Missions Fall to Midland 

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions continued their six-game series with the Midland RockHounds on Wednesday night. For the second consecutive night, the Missions had the lead before allowing Midland to claim victory at the end. After leading 4-0, Midland plated seven runs across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings on their way to a 7-5 victory.

Daniel Camarena was the starting pitcher for the Missions. Midland placed two runners on base in the top of the first inning. Drew Swift began the frame with a base hit. After retiring the next batter, Caeden Trenkle grounded into a force out with Swift out at second base. A passed ball from Juan Zabala allowed Trenkle to advance to second base. Lazaro Armenteros struck out swinging to end the inning.

Jack Perkins was the starting pitcher for the RockHounds. The Missions captured the lead off the right-hander in the bottom half of the first inning. Leading off the inning, Ripken Reyes hit a line drive over the right field wall for a home run. His fifth long ball of the season gave the Missions a 1-0 lead.

Midland had runners in scoring position again in the second inning. Cameron Masterman drew a walk to start the inning. After setting down the next batter, William Simoneit singled to right field. Casey Yamauchi was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Camarena escaped the inning after Brayan Buelvas grounded into a double play.

The Missions added a run in the bottom of the third inning. With two men down, Reyes singled to center field. After stealing second base, Merrill drove in Reyes with a base hit to right field. San Antonio improved their lead to 2-0.

Camarena, serving as an opener of sorts, pitched three scoreless innings before handing the ball off to Michel Baez. The southpaw allowed two hits and one walk while striking out one batter.

San Antonio made it a 4-0 ballgame in the bottom of the fifth inning. Korry Howell began the frame with a base hit. Perkins retired the next batter before allowing a single to Justin Farmer. Reyes laid down a sacrifice bunt which allowed Howell to score. On the play, a fielding error allowed Reyes to reach first base. Merrill drew a walk to load the bases. Michael De La Cruz drove in Farmer with a single to right field.

Midland plated their first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Swift began the frame with a double and stole third base. A wild pitch from Baez allowed Swift to score. The Missions held a 4-1 lead.

Bobby Milacki entered the game in the top of the seventh inning. A fielding mishap led to four Midland runs scoring. Simoneit reached base on a one-out single. After retiring the next batter, De La Cruz misplayed a pop out which allowed Simoneit to score and Buelvas to reach base. Milacki issued a walk to Swift to put two runners on base. Muncy hit a line drive homer to left field to make it a 5-4 Midland lead.

The RockHounds added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Masterman reached base with a one-out single. Winkler hit a line drive home run over the left field wall to make it a 7-4 ballgame.

In the bottom of the ninth, Calvin Coker returned to the mound for his third inning of work. Howell and Zabala hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Cole Cummings pinch-hit for Farmer and lined out to center field. Reyes struck out looking for the second out. Merrill drove in Howell with a single to right field. De La Cruz, representing the winning run, flew out to left field to end the game.
