AMARILLO, Texas (September 11, 2026) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles (40-27) used 19 hits and four homers to jump all over the San Antonio Missions (27-40) in a 17-1 win. Carson Montgomery, making his first Double-A start for the Missions, gave up 10 of those runs (nine earned) in 2.2 innings.
The Sod Poodles wasted little getting to Montgomery, whose first nine pitches missed the zone. Amarillo cashed in on the early runners thanks to an Angel Ortiz RBI double and two-run single for Druw Jones that made it 3-0 Sod Poodles after one.
Jean Walters began his big night at the plate with a homer in the second ahead of Amarillo’s major eruption in the third. Ortiz homered before Walters cleared the bases loaded with a double. After a Trent Youngblood single and Missions error, the Sod Poodles suddenly led 10-0 after three frames.
The Sod Poodles added seven more runs later, including two on Carlos Virahonda’s first Double-A homer and three on another Walters dinger. San Antonio got on the board in the seventh on a fielder’s choice, but that’s all the offense they could muster on the night.
