The St. Louis Cardinals today assigned 22-year-old infielder Luke Dykstra to Springfield in a move acting in conjunction with infielder Ramón Urías' assignment to AAA-Memphis from Springfield.
Dykstra, who was transferred from Short-A State College, was originally drafted by the Braves in the 7th round (223rd overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the Cardinals in a trade with the Braves for LHP Jaime García on Dec. 1, 2016.
His .304 average in 2016 was second on the Single-A Rome Braves and his .348 average in 2015 led the team, but he didn't record enough at-bats either season to qualify among South Atlantic League leaders. He batted .250 with 67 hits, 29 runs and 27 RBIs over 81 games for High-A Palm Beach in 2017.
He was named a 2016 South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star and a 2015 MiLB.com Organization All-Star.
Dykstra is the son of former Major Leaguer Lenny Dykstra, who hit .285 and finished with 1,298 career hits over a 12-year MLB career with the Mets and Phillies.
The Cardinals visit the Midland RockHounds tonight for the second game of a three-game series. Fans can watch by clicking here.
