SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Texas League has announced Springfield Cardinals infielder Andy Young as Player of the Week for July 23 - July 29.

Young, 24, batted .423 in seven games last week, including hitting a league-high five home runs padded by a pair of two-homer games. He led the Texas League in runs (8), extra-base hits (5, T1st), total bases (26), home runs, slugging (1.000) and OPS (1.531) and was among league leaders in average (2nd), hits (11, T2nd), RBIs (12, 2nd) and on-base percentage (.531, 2nd).

The West Fargo, North Dakota native made his 2018 debut with Springfield on July 22. In eight games, Young is batting .433 with five home runs, eight runs and 12 RBIs to go with a 1.461 OPS. He was 2-for-3 with two runs in two games for Springfield at the end of the 2017 season.

Young hit 12 home runs in 84 games with High-A Palm Beach this season, batting .276 with an .817 OPS and .372 on-base percentage plus 43 runs and 34 RBIs. He participated in the 2018 Florida State League Home Run Derby, hitting 14 homers in the competition.

Selected by St. Louis in the 37th round of the 2016 June Draft out of Indiana State University, Young joins pitcher Anthony Shew, catcher Chris Chinea, first baseman John Nogowski and outfielders Victor Roache and Lane Thomas as Cardinals named Texas League Player/Pitcher of the Week this season.
