Columbus (23-16) jumped out to a lead with a five-run top of the first inning.
Syracuse (23-17) got on the board in the bottom of the third. Rivera stayed red hot, extending his hitting streak to ten with his second home run of the year, trimming the lead to four, 5-1.
In the fifth, Guillorme and Rivera each singled to start the frame. After two strikeouts, Grégor Blanco singled to right field to score Guillorme and make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Columbus broke the game open in the sixth. Hasse singled and Papi doubled to begin the inning.
In the seventh, Hasse led off with a line-drive home run to left field to push the score to 9-2. Two batters later,
Rivera's huge day continued in the bottom of the seventh with his second home run of the day to make the deficit 10-3.
The Clippers added runs in the ninth. Columbus scored four runs thanks to a wild pitch, an error, and two sacrifice flies for a 14-3 edge.
Syracuse and Columbus continue their three-game series with the second game on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
