Hens nab second straight win over Bats, 6-2

April 14, 2014

The Mud Hens came up with their second win in a row over Louisville on Monday tonight at Slugger Field. Toledo used a five run fourth inning to propel them past Louisville in a game that ended in the sixth inning due to rain.

Toledo starter Duane Below was solid in his second outing of the year, giving up just three hits and struck out five in four shutout innings. However it was Hens reliever Melvin Mercedes who was credited with his first win of the season.

Hens OF J.D. Martinez continued his tear as he blasted his fifth home run of the year in the top of the first inning to jump-start the Toledo offense. Louisville starter Jeff Francis did cool off the Hens lineup for a few innings but the bottom of the fourth the Toledo offense came alive again.

Topped off with RBI single from SS Hernan Perez, which scored two, Toledo pushed their lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth. The Bats did tack on two runs in the bottom of the sixth but Mother Nature came in full force. Heavy rains caused the contest to be called and Toledo improved to 4-7 on the year.

The Hens and Bats return to battle in Louisville on Tuesday evening with first pitch slated for 6:35
