Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens concluded their 2019 season on Monday at Fifth Third Field taking on the Columbus Clippers in a game that ended in a 11-3 final.
On the mound for Toledo, Spenser Watkins started the game with back-to-back strikeouts for the Hens before a fly out sent Toledo to the plate in the bottom of the first.
After two scoreless innings, the Clippers utilized a two-run home run by Ka'ai Tom scoring Ernie Clement who had doubled to take the first lead of the game, 2-0.
Columbus extended their lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Daniel Johnson to right field.
The Mud Hens registered their first baserunners of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Jeimer Candelario drew a walk followed by a hit by pitch to Christin Stewart to put two on. A fly out by Frank Schwindel moved Candelario to third, but that would be all the action in the game.
The next offensive action came in the top of the sixth inning, being a home run by Mark Mathias, scoring Bradley Zimmer who led off the inning with a triple. The home run ended Watkins day, seeing Eduardo Jimenez enter to pitch. Over 5.1 innings, Watkins gave up five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six.
In the seventh, Columbus added to their lead, adding a home run by Zimmer on top of two doubles and a single to score four, pushing the score to 9-0.
The Hens got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Schwindel began the inning drawing a walk before scoring on a double by Jacob Robson. Pete Kozma and Chad Sedio both added RBI doubles of their own, moving the score to 9-3 Columbus.
In the eighth inning, Victor Alcantara replaced Jimenez on the mound. Going 1.2 innings, Jimenez allowed four runs on four hits while tallying one strikeout. Alcantara struck out one batter in his hitless inning of work before Austin Adams replaced him in the top of the ninth.
After a walk to begin the ninth, Tom knocked his second home run of the game to extend the Clippers' lead to 11-3.
