Stewart goes yard in 6-3 loss to Norfolk

TOLEDO, Ohio - In the Memorial Day weekend series opener with the Norfolk Tides, the Toledo Mud Hens were defeated 6-3 at Fifth Third Field in front of a sell-out crowd. 

TOLEDO, Ohio - In the Memorial Day weekend series opener with the Norfolk Tides, the Toledo Mud Hens were defeated 6-3 at Fifth Third Field in front of a sell-out crowd. 

With two outs in the first inning, Christin Stewart launched his 12th homer of the season to give the Mud Hens a 1-0 lead over the Tides. Stewart finished 2-for-5 on the evening.
The Tides would make its presence known by putting up a three-spot in the third inning. The Mud Hens would respond in the bottom of the fourth when Ronny Rodríguez hit an infield single to score Jason Krizan. Norfolk would again respond by putting three runs on the board in the fifth inning.
After stretch-time, Krizan roped a two-out single to score Jim Adduci. Krizan ended the night 3-for-5 with one RBI and a run scored. After the seventh the Hens had runners on, but could not convert any runs.
Kenny Wilson also finished the night with three hits going 3-for-4 at the plate. Wilson made a tremendous diving catch in left-center field in the top of the eighth inning.


Rodriguez shined at the plate in the lead-off spot going 2-for-4 with one RBI and a walk.
The left-handed knuckleballer Josh Turley took to the hill to start the game for Toledo and allowed six runs, five of which were earned, on four hits. Turley also struck out two batters and allowed six walks in four and one third innings of work.
Victor Alcántara came on in relief and allowed no runs on three hits in two and two thirds innings. Alcantara punched out three batters and walked none. Kevin Chapman then came in and gave up no runs on no hits. In one inning of work Chapman recorded one strikeout.
Zac Reininger came in to close and allowed no runs and no hits while striking out one and walking two.
What's Next:
The Mud Hens are back in action tomorrow night against the Norfolk Tides in the second game of the four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
