COMSTOCK PARK, MI – The West Michigan Whitecaps watched the Beloit Sky Carp post a record-setting night on offense as part of a 14-3 loss Wednesday night at LMCU Ballpark.

The Sky Carp - who came into the game carrying the worst batting average in the Midwest League at .201 - compiled 14 runs for the first time this season, blasting three home runs as all-but-one Beloit batter notched a base hit in the Beloit victory. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps managed multiple base runners only once before the eighth inning, finishing just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Beloit took the 2-0 lead in the third inning as Ynmanol Marinez smoked an RBI-single before a bases-loaded walk pushed across the second run. A three-run home run off the bat of Angeudis Santos ended the night for Whitecaps Starter Ty Madden, as the Sky Carp piled on six runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-0. Meanwhile, Beloit starting pitcher Pat Monteverde tossed a season-high seven scoreless innings as Marinez, and Cody Morissette blasted two-run homers to make it 12-0. The Whitecaps plated three runs in the eighth frame as Chris Meyers extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI-single before Josh Crouch plated a pair to slim the advantage to 12-3. Beloit plated two insurance runs in the ninth as reliever Jackson Rose slammed the door with three-straight strikeouts, snapping a six-game losing skid and securing the 14-3 victory.

Monteverde (1-1) picks up his first win of the year with four strikeouts through seven scoreless frames, while Madden (1-3) suffers his third loss, surrendering six runs through three innings. Beloit improves to 9-20 as the Whitecaps fall to 11-18. The Whitecaps record falls to 0-5 on Wednesdays this season.
