Tweet from @ThatDanHasty: What a moment for Kody Clemens (@kodyclem), who blasts a laser to RF for his first professional HR. And yes; he received the silent treatment treatment in the dugout.@DetroitTigersPR #RoadToDetroit https://t.co/VnIaO9dBYd
Clemens, the Detroit Tigers third-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, lined a solo shot in the fourth inning for his first professional home run. An inning later, Clemens doubled-down with his second longball of the contest - a towering blast for his second home run in as many at-bats. The game was played in front of 11,302 fans - the largest crowd the Whitecaps have played in front of this season.

With the game tied at two in the fifth, Rivera sent a mile-high fly ball to right that snuck over the wall for his seventh homer of 2018. In the seventh, Deatherage recorded his fourth hit of the night with an RBI-triple to extend the lead to 6-3 before a two-out single in the ninth to give West Michigan its first 5-for-5 performance since Dylan Burdeaux on August 20 of last season.
Whitecaps starter Elvin Rodriguez (6-4) tossed six innings and gave up just three runs in a quality start and his sixth victory of 2018, while Lansing pitcher Maverik Buffo (9-3) took the highway into the danger zone by giving up five runs in his six frames on the mound. Clate Schmidt worked three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his fourth save of the year. With the win, the Whitecaps improve their second-half record to 7-7 and overall mark to 43-41, while the Lugnuts drop to 10-4 in the second portion of the season, and 53-31 overall.
