COMSTOCK PARK, MI – Despite an outstanding pitching performance from Brendan White and Bryce Tassin, the West Michigan Whitecaps fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 2-1 in front of 6,569 fans Saturday night at LMCU Ballpark.

White and Tassin combined to throw all nine innings, allowing two runs while punching out 15 TinCaps hitters. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps failed to rally on offense finishing 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

The Whitecaps scored first in the fourth inning as Gage Workman roped an RBI-double, plating Jake Holton and putting West Michigan on top 1-0. Fort Wayne responded in the fifth as Ethan Skender pounded an RBI-double before crossing the plate on a bunt from Ripken Reyes, forging the TinCaps in front 2-1. The Whitecaps managed only two hits the remainder of the night as Fort Wayne bullpen arms Chase Walter and Wen-Hua Sung combined for three shutout innings with four strikeouts to put the finishing touches on the victory.

TinCaps reliever Gabe Morales (1-0) lasted four innings while allowing just one run on three hits in his first victory as Sung notched his fourth save on the season. Whitecaps starter Brendan White (3-6) suffered a tough-luck loss, allowing just two runs through five innings of work while striking out nine TinCaps batters in his sixth loss on the campaign. White is 0-1 over his last two starts, going 10.0 innings while allowing four runs and striking out 18 batters over that span. The TinCaps improve to 45-50 as the Whitecaps fall to 45-50.
