On Thursday, June 30, the Wilmington Blue Rocks ended the month of June on a high note, defeating the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by a score of 7-4 to take a 2-1 lead in their six game series.

Friday night’s game would not bring the same result, as the month of July would not kickstart in a winning way, with the BlueClaws getting revenge and taking down the Blue Rocks, 3-1, evening up the series at two games a piece.

The BlueClaws started off the scoring in the top of the third thanks to an RBI double blasted by Casey Martin which scored Uziel Viloria, and they would never look back.

Jersey Shore extended their lead in the top of the fourth with another extra base hit, this time an RBI double by Baron Radcliff to score Jared Carr and up their lead to 2-0.

After escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth, the Blue Rocks would continue to swing the momentum their way with an RBI single by Israel Pineda to cut the deficit in half and make it a 2-1 game.

The BlueClaws were quick to respond, with Casey Martin’s second RBI of the night, this time via a single, extending their lead to 3-1, which would end up being the final score.

The Blue Rocks were not short of opportunities on offense in this one, but they couldn’t cash in during the big moments. Wilmington left ten runners on base tonight, while going just 1-9 with runners in scoring position.

Seth Shuman couldn’t go the distance in this one, pitching five innings and allowing five hits, two earned runs, four walks, and striking out four. The Phillies #2 organizational prospect, Mick Abel, picked up his fifth win of the season, pitching six innings while allowing four hits, one earned run, four walks and striking out four in the process.

With the series now all tied up at two games a piece, the Blue Rocks will be looking to take the series advantage in game five on Saturday, July 2.
