Jeans tosses three shutout innings of relief in Dash debut

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 27, 2021) - The Dash could not muster a run against the dominant Hickory pitching Thursday, falling 4-0.

Cody Bradford tossed a lights-out performance for the Crawdads (9-12) with six shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out five.

Jeremiah Burke made his first start for Winston-Salem (10-11), pitching five solid innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out four.

Winston-Salem threatened in the first frame after Alex Destino lined a double to right field with two outs, but the Dash were unable to capitalize.

The ‘Dads struck first in the third inning when Kellen Strahm plated a run with an RBI single. David Garcia followed suit with two batters later, slugging an RBI single of his own for a 2-0 Hickory lead.

From that point on, the pitching staff of the Dash held Hickory at bay with five shutout innings. Trey Jeans made his Dash debut in the sixth inning, cuffing the ‘Dads with three shutout innings of relief.

The Dash had a chance in the seventh, as Duke Ellis roped a single to right field in the eighth with one out, advancing to second on an errant pickoff throw from Tyler Thomas. The Dash were unable to bring Ellis home, going 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position Thursday night.

Luke Shilling broke his 7.1 scoreless inning streak in the ninth when he allowed a two-run single to Frainyer Chavez, extending Hickory’s lead to 4-0.

Bradford (1-1, 4.15 ERA) earned the win Thursday, while Burke (0-1, 1.00 ERA) was hooked with the loss in his first start at Truist Stadium.

Winston-Salem looks to grab their second win in game four tomorrow night at Truist Stadium.

Johan Dominguez will take the mound for the Dash (1-2, 3.50 ERA) and Grant Wolfram (0-1, 5.91 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Coverage begins at 6:45 at https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/team/broadcast-corner.
