HICKORY, N.C. (May 13, 2021) – The Winston Salem Dash snuck past the Hickory Crawdads by the score of 2-1 on Thursday night.

Ryan Newman called on Jason Bilous to start for the Dash, while Cody Bradford took the bump for the Crawdads.

The first third of the game was silent, except for a solid pitching performance for Jason Bilous. Bilous came out of the gate on fire, striking out the side in both the first and third innings.

The Dash offense began to strike in the fourth, beginning with a line drive double to center field from Lenyn Sosa. Bradford hurled a pitch to the backstop to send Sosa to third base. Alex Destino shot a liner into left to drive Sosa home and give the Dash a 1-0 lead.

Hickory quickly answered in the fourth inning. With one away, Chris Siese smoked a ground-ball single past the shortstop Lenyn Sosa. Blaine Crim walked to put Siese in scoring position at second base. David Garcia drove Siese home on a grounder to left field, evening up the score at one run apiece.

With nobody on base in the top of the 6th inning, Luis Curbelo stepped up and heroically cranked his third home run of the year into the left field seats to put the Dash up 2-1 and secure the victory.

Jason Bilous took his first win of the season, giving up only two hits, one earned run, and fanning a whopping ten Hickory batters. Closer Caleb Freeman nabbed his first save. Despite a five-strikeout performance, Grant Anderson took the loss for the Crawdads.

With the Dash moving ahead in the series two games to one, the two teams’ records are back even at 4-5 each.

Game four of the six game series will be played tomorrow night at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. Isaiah Carranza (0-1) will open things up for Winston-Salem, and Grant Wolfram (0-0) will take the mound for the ‘Dads. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
