MOOSIC, P.A. — The Worcester Red Sox (54-54) suffered their fourth straight loss on Thursday night, a 4-1 final against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-50) at PNC Field.

SWB starter Clarke Schmidt tossed six perfect innings, striking out 11 on 78 pitches for the home team. After Schmidt’s exit, the WooSox broke up the perfect game one out into the seventh inning on a home run from Abraham Almonte.

Over 14 games with Worcester, Almonte has slashed .269/.367/.538 with four homers and 10 RBI.

WooSox starter Chris Murphy took the loss, allowing four earned runs over 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts and five walks. All four SWB runs came in the second: a Rob Brantly RBI single, a Chad Bell two-run double and a Blake Perkins run-scoring single.

On the mound, James Norwood got the final out of the seventh, and Jeurys Familia (signed by Boston on Tuesday) struck out the side in the eighth in his WooSox debut.

Offensively, Worcester managed a season-low two baserunners—the Almonte home run and a third inning double from Triston Casas.

The WooSox continue the six-game road series on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, affiliate of the New York Yankees. On the mound, Connor Seabold (5-1, 2.29) faces Sean Boyle. Radio coverage is live at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
