Players to give fans “The Shirts off their Backs”

Fans can run the bases after the game and have their last “Sunset Catch.”

WORCESTER, MA – To thank the fans and the citizens of Worcester, Central Massachusetts, and all of New England for their unabated support throughout this Inaugural Season, the Worcester Red Sox will present their second Fan Appreciation Day at their final home game of the year, this Sunday, September 26 at 4:05 PM.

The club will bestow more than 900 gifts and prizes to fans—including a postgame ceremony in which the players give fans literally “the shirts off their backs.” The club will also “pass the puck” to the Worcester Railers, whose season begins in October. The club will also express its gratitude to the public officials who have been such honorable partners, from persuasion in Pawtucket to the warm welcome in Worcester.

“We simply seek an opportunity to say thank you,” said WooSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. “We want to thank fans directly; our players want to thank fans directly; and we want to thank the leaders of the City of Worcester and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who have worked so hard to make Worcester and our region an even more wonderful place to live, work, and play. We hope that is a day for positive sentiments and optimism for next year.”

An array of popular mascots will be available before, during, and after the game to meet and take photos with children. Fans will be able to enjoy Summit Street and its festive new features for the first time.

Before the game, the club will offer some of the pageantry intended for Opening Day, including a tribute to nurses and other health care personnel to thank them for their endurance, compassion, and care through the pandemic. As is custom on Opening Day, the Season Finale will include the introduction of the players from both teams.

Throughout the game, fans will receive more than 900 presents, many of them from WooSox corporate partners. The ever-growing list includes:

As a grand prize, during the game, lucky fans will be selected to step onto the field after the game, when the WooSox ’21 players will also gather on the field, take off their jerseys, and give these fans “the shirts off their backs” in appreciation for their season-long support.

As with every Fallon Health Sunday Funday, kids (of all ages) will be invited to run the bases after the game. And, to perpetuate this season just a few more minutes, fans will be welcomed to enjoy one last sunset catch in the outfield.

Despite sharply limited capacity at the start of the season, the WooSox are in the Top 10 in attendance among all 120 clubs in Minor League Baseball. On Friday, September 10, the WooSox’ attendance surpassed 300,000. The WooSox also rank Number One in website visits and page views.

With 10 games left to play, five at home, the WooSox (66-52) have clinched a winning record, the first for the franchise since 2016.

Remarkably, the WooSox have had 23 players get called up to Boston.
