Late home run pushes Aces win streak to three

Fresno, Calif.- Nick Ahmed's first-career Triple-A home run in the eighth inning gave the Reno Aces a 2-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies Sunday afternoon in Fresno.

Ahmed's two-run homer was the only offense Reno would get in the game, but Charles Brewer and Jess Todd made it stand up to give the Aces their third win in a row.

For the third-consecutive game, the Aces fell behind in the first inning when Gary Brown walked and later scored on an Adam Duvall ground out to second base.

That's all the offense the Grizzlies would muster, however, as starting pitcher Charles Brewer held Fresno to four hits over the next five innings. Brewer notched his second victory of the season after going seven innings and allowing just the one run.

Reno's bats were quiet for most of the game, until Blake Lalli's pinch-hit double down the right field line brought Ahmed to the plate. After fouling the first pitch of the at-bat off of his foot, Ahmed took the next pitch to deep to left field to put the Aces on top for good.

Jess Todd, celebrating his 28th birthday today, came on in the eighth and got the final six outs for his second save of the year.

The win was the Aces' first of the season when trailing after the seventh inning. It was also the first time Reno had won when a left-handed pitcher had started for the opposition. Before Sunday, the Aces had been 0-5 against left-handed starters.

The teams will meet again tomorrow night, with RHP Archie Bradley (1-2, 3.31) starting for Reno and RHP Jason Berken (1-2. 3.38) going for Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
